22 new cottages designed specifically for aging in place

LifeSpire of Virginia has broken ground on a $25 million expansion at The Glebe continuing care retirement community in Daleville — just outside Roanoke — adding 22 new cottages designed specifically for aging in place. The project reflects surging demand: Roanoke County's senior population represents 28% of residents, with adjacent Botetourt County at 32%. The expansion is part of a broader LifeSpire strategy to tilt its portfolio toward independent living to attract residents earlier in their retirement journey.

Why it matters: Demand for quality senior living in the Roanoke Valley is outpacing supply — and it's being noticed at the investment level. For clients in this region, waitlists at premier communities are real and growing. Having LTC insurance in place before a health event doesn't just pay the bill — it expands the options significantly, including access to continuing care communities like The Glebe that require private-pay capacity.
